WWDC, Apple’s annual developer conference, starts this week. The keynote is today at 10 AM PT. In no particular order, here are a few announcements I’d like to see:
Software
- Bicycle directions in Apple Maps
- Swipe-to-type in the iOS keyboard
- API to unlock 1Password vault with unlocked Apple Watch, like MacBook unlock
- Two-factor auth codes in the iOS keyboard, like passwords
- iOS support for FIDO2 (YubiKey)
- Multi-user support for the HomePod
- Google Assistant support for Apple Music
- Siri on third-party devices, like the Sonos One
- Dynamic complications on watchOS
- Reduced brightness at night in watchOS
HomeKit
- HomeKit-compatible Z-Wave hub
- HomeKit support for washers & dryers, robo-vacuums, electricity & gas meters and TVs with Roku OS
- Ring Alarm, Abode, SimpliSafe or Nest Secure support for HomeKit
- NFC keyfobs that can trigger HomeKit scenes and automations
Hardware
- External monitor with Face ID
- External keyboard with Touch ID
- Cheaper HomePod, like the Echo Dot or Google Home Mini
- Stand-alone display, like the Echo Show or Google Nest Hub
- MacBooks with Apple-designed ARM-based processors
